The Scarecrow’s Big Day Out brings families flocking to Gladstone each spring for a day of events and festivities. What began as a promotional concept for the region has grown and evolved over the years, and the festival is now the main fundraising event for Gladstone School.
The Scarecrow Fair has grown in reputation year on year, and has firmly established its place in the annual Wairarapa events calendar with its fairground rides, country games, local food and incredible Monster Auction at midday. Punters are then encouraged to grab a scarecrow map and do the Scarecrow Drive around the beautiful Gladstone district spotting scarecrows.
On alternate years, Scarecrows on The Gobbler is held in the afternoon at The Gobbler, a stunning 6-hole golf course in the Longbush Valley. The golf course provides a magical setting for all the out of district entries in the Scarecrow Competition, alongside delicious local food and wine, live music and plenty of activities to keep the kids entertained.
