For a unique experience, come and recharge at this recently relocated and beautifully renovated 1893 kauri timber country school. Set amongst a vineyard, the former schoolhouse has spectacular views to the Tararua and Maungaraki ranges, and is only a short stroll to the picturesque Ruamahunga River. The serene location allows you to get away from it all, though it is within easy access to nearby winery cellar doors, olive oil tasting and river activities.
Step back in time and soak up the nostalgia of an original 1890s country school of yesteryear, relocated from Ngaturi in Tararua to a vineyard in the Wairarapa valley. Redesigned and furnished with comfort in mind, Historic Ngaturi School features a super-king sized bed, generous modern bathroom, and light-filled open-plan living and dining area complete with wood-burning fire and cooker.
An extra guest or two can be accommodated in the sun-room with a sofa bed or two single beds. Outside you are free to fire up the gas barbecue and enjoy a BBQ supper on the generous deck, overlooking the vineyard and mountains. Breakfasts and other meals are available on request.
The former schoolhouse is located 1.5 hours by car or train northeast of Wellington, and is only a short 15 minute drive to Greytown, Carterton or Masterton. Your hosts can recommend local sights, activities, cafes and restaurants for you to enjoy, so you can experience all that the Wairarapa has to offer.
